Position Description:

The Rural Generalist Council Care model is a pilot project unique to the All Nations Health Partners and is comprised of Ogimaawabiitong- Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA), Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe’iyewigamig (WNHAC), Sunset Country Family Health Team (SCFHT) and Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LWDH). Under the guidance of the RGC Evaluation Team, the RGC model is being evaluated from the patient and provider perspectives to understand the impact of changes made during the pilot and to inform next steps.

Working collaboratively with the RGC Evaluation Team and RGC Management Committee, the Research Assistant will engage individuals in the All Nations Health Partners geographic region (which includes in the City of Kenora, surrounding First Nations communities, the District of Kenora Unincorporated area, and Sioux Narrows Nestor Falls) to gather information about the experiences as a patient receiving local healthcare services. The research of the new model will center patient voices to better understand positive changes, challenges, nuances as it relates to access to and perspectives about local healthcare services. The Research Assistant will engage in conversations with patients and providers (physicians), gathering feedback, sharing information, and other duties as required by the Evaluation Team and RGC Management Committee.

Position title: Research Assistant

Term: 1.0 FTE contract position from May 19, 2026 to August 28, 2026 with consideration for return to school date

Remuneration: $31.25 per hour

Reports to: The Evaluation Team and the RGC Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage with community members and providers (physicians) to collect feedback for the research team;
  • At all times, approach engagement with community members with empathy and an awareness of trauma-informed good practice;
  • Support the development of and distribute materials/content regarding the research project, supporting communications directed by the research team;
  • Complete assigned training relevant to carrying out Research Assistant duties, including, but not limited to data collection and management;
  • Follow the instructions and guidance of the Research Evaluation Team and RGC Coordinator;
  • Respond promptly to communications and requests from the Research Evaluation Team and RGC Coordinator;
  • Other duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience working within First Nations communities and knowledge of the region’s historical context an asset;
  • Trauma-informed approaches training an asset; eg. Fundamentals of Trauma Processing
  • Have a strong interest in learning research processes, experience with qualitative research methods an asset;
  • Exceptional organization, and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Strong computer skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to professionally communicate (in-person and virtually) and network with community members and service providers;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently or and as a collaborative team member;
  • Strong customer service skills.

 

Education:

  • High school diploma and;
  • Currently enrolled in a relevant social services or health sciences college or university program;
  • Willingness to participate in training to learn research methods and processes.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle, with a clean driver’s abstract is required
  • Valid driver’s insurance;
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and overtime if necessary;
  • Willing to travel to First Nations communities in the region;
  • Ability to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • Experience working with Indigenous populations is an asset.
